Fever Preview
Indiana, who finished the season playing .500 ball with a record of 20 - 20, will look to keep their playoff hopes alive as they play game 2 tonight in Connecticut. Indiana finished the season by winning 6 of their last 10 games but struggled on the road going 8 - 12 in their 2024 campaign. That's a tough place to find themselves as they enter tonight's game at the Mohegan.
Kelsey Mitchell, the 5'8" Guard from Ohio State was the standout in game one with 21 points and five assists in 37 minutes along with 6'5" Center Aliyah Boston who added 17 points and 11 rebounds in 33 minutes. Both will look to continue that pace in game 2 tonight.
The Fever will need to find a way to get more production out of Caitlin Clark. The 6' Guard out of Iowa, who was the unanimous AP Rookie of the Year on 19.2 points and 8.4 assists per game, was kept somewhat in check in game one as she put up 11 points and 8 assists in 36 minutes, but failed to generate much from three as she went 2 for 13 from past the arc.
Offensively, Indiana finished the season 1st in field goal percentage (45.6), 3rd in points per game (85), 4th in rebounds per game (35.1) and 5th in 3 pointers made (368). Defensively they were 3rd in rebounds per game (36.1) and 4th in blocks per game (4.5).
Sun Preview
Connecticut ended their season finishing 3rd with a 28 - 12 record and ended the season winning 6 of their last 10 games. The Sun have identical 14 - 6 home and road records and have played well against the Fever going 4 - 1 this season including game one of the playoffs.
The Sun's 5'11" Guard Marina Mabrey put up 27 points and 3 assists in 32 minutes in game one as well as going 5 - 12 from the three point line. Mabrey had plenty of help from 10-year vet Alyssa Thomas. The 6'2" Forward from Maryland had 12 points and 13 assists in 37 minutes while adding 10 rebounds, nine of them on the defensive glass.
How I use Rithmm Models for Sun vs Wings AI Prediction
Rithmm continues to be my go-to App for finding agreement with my other metrics and here are some trends I looked at to make this decision:
- The total has gone over in 7 of the last 10 games for Indiana
- The total has gone over in 5 of the last 7 Indiana road games
- The total has gone under in 7 of the last 9 games for Connecticut
- Connecticut is 5 - 2 straight up in their last 7 games
- Indiana is 1 - 4 straight up in their last 5 games
While I try to never take anything for granted, especially in sports, short of Indiana bringing their A+ game and the Sun not showing up, this one isn't in doubt. The Sun should win, but can they cover the -6 they are currently laying? This line has come down a full point and that alone has given me pause. The Fever are getting huge sharp support to the tune of 78% bet split to cover and at this rate the line should come down a little more before tomorrow, so waiting on that isn't the worst strategy if you want to take the Sun and lay the points.
But with all of that in consideration, I wanted to look at the totals for this game and something popped up that surprised me. The current bet split for this game is 80% to the over! That part doesn't surprise me, Joe's are obsessed with overs. But, if there's so much money coming in on the over, why hasn't the line moved, well, at all? It opened at 163.5 (DK) and, in spite of the overwhelming support to the over, the line has not moved. Something smells fishy, and when it smells fishy, it usually is.
My Rithmm AI Custom Betting Models above show this game going under and I'll be taking the under here as well.
