Chargers Preview
The Los Angeles Chargers were able to squeak out a win against the Las Vegas Raiders last week under new head coach Jim Harbaugh. The Chargers were not necessarily on their offensive game as they were only able to put up three field goals in the first three quarters before finally finding the end zone in the fourth.
Justin Herbert felt mostly non-existent as he threw for 144 yards on 17 for 26 passing and one touchdown while the bright spot for the Chargers offense was J.K. Dobbins. The 25-year old running back out of Ohio State, who’s had an oft injured career thus far, had a breakout game, rushing for 135 yards on 10 carries including one for 61 yards, plus one TD.
The Chargers defense, with a little help from some downright poor Raiders coaching, had to step up their game last week holding the Raiders to one touchdown early and a field goal near the end of the game.
Panthers Preview
There's not much good news out of the Panthers nation after last week's blow out 47 - 10 loss at the hands of the Saints. Carolina looked outmatched on all fronts as they went down 30 - 3 by half and the Saints never looked back. And that 3 points was the first points scored by the Panthers in 9 quarters going back to last season.
The Panthers offense? Well, there wasn't any. Quarterback Bryce Young's first pass was intercepted as he ended the day 10 of 30 for 161 yards and two picks, with the second pick being on the first drive of the 2nd half. And the run game was even less eventful as the Panthers only ran for 58 yards.
Defensively the Panthers were not much better giving up 379 total yards to the Saints last week including 180 on the ground. And the bad news only got worse when they announced that they had lost defensive lineman Derrick Brown to a season ending meniscus injury. Brown had set an NFL record for tackles in a season by a defensive lineman last year with 103 and his presence will definitely be missed.
How I Use Rithmm Models for my Chargers vs Panthers AI Prediction
This game is not going to be a clash of offensive juggernauts. It may be slow and plodding and that's the way Harbaugh likes it. Couple that with an anemic Panthers offense and you begin to see a clearer picture that the Total may be where this game lies from a betting perspective. Some quick trends:
- The Chargers have gone under in 13 of their last 16 games
- The Chargers have gone under in 6 of their last 7 road games
- The Chargers total has gone under in 4 of their last 5 games against NFC opponents
- The Panthers have gone under in 9 of their last 12 games
- The Panthers have gone under in in 7 of their last 8 games at home
- The Panthers have gone under in 4 of their last 5 games played in week 2
Are we sensing a theme here? I think so.
This line opened at 41.5 on DK and has slowly moved down to 39 as of this writing. I can't imagine either offense is going to shine here, and short of the Chargers lighting up the Panthers ala the Saints, this may end up being a mostly slow paced game with a lot of, well, slowness. I'm not expecting much other than the Chargers to win, and no amount of positivity from Dave Canales is going to will them to a win.

With all of the above information in mind, and my Rithmm AI Custom Betting Models above show this game going under 39, so I'll be taking the under this weekend.
