Broncos Preview
The Denver Broncos ride into Tampa on a 2-game losing streak, going down last week in a close one to the Pittsburgh Steelers at home 13 - 6. Denver arguably has one of the worst offenses in the league right now and have tempered the early season expectations of the 12th overall pick in Bo Nix. In two games, this offense has only put up one touchdown, a run by Nix himself, and currently rank 29th in total offense with 263 yards per game, 21st in passing with 181.5 yards per game, 27th in rushing offense with 81.5 yards per game and 30th in scoring offense at 13 points per game.
All aspects of this Denver offense need to step up their game, even against a porous Tampa defense that gives up yards, but not points. The Broncos need to find a way to take pressure off of Nix and the best way to do that is to run the ball. But that's hard to do when the line isn't getting a push, the backs are missing their reads and the run game has simply been putrid. But run they must if for no other reason than to give Nix room to breathe.
The Broncos defense has been a mixed bag. Their total defense is a solid 9th in the league, giving up 277.5 yards per game with their pass defense landing 4th with 158 yards per game. But their rushing defense has been rough giving up 143.5 yards per game, good for 24th in the league. This defense will need to stiffen up if it wants to slow down this Bucs offense that has the potential to put up points.
Buccaneers Preview
Tampa Bay is having their typical 2 - 0 start to a season, with this being their fourth in a row, and now they need to avoid the dreaded Week 3 loss that has plagued them in each of their last 3 seasons. Conversely, a win would result in their first 3 - 0 start since the 2005 season.
Baker Mayfield has gotten off to a decent start going 36 for 49 for 474 yards and 5 touchdowns with only one interception on the season. While not earth shattering numbers by any stretch, they are definitely numbers you can build a winning season around. The Tampa offense is 19th in total offense with 304 yards per game, 13th in passing offense at 213 yards per game and they are 4th in scoring with 28.5 points per game, but their rushing offense will need to step it up as they are currently 24th in the league in rushing at 91 yards per game. That rushing offense is critical in giving Mayfield time to throw to the likes of Chris Godwin who has 200 receiving yards on 15 catches and two touchdowns and the venerable Mike Evans with his 8 receptions for 103 yards and 2 touchdowns. These two are the dynamic duo in this Bucs offense and have game breaking capabilities that the Bucs offense will need to tap in to.
This Bucs defense is 28th in total defense giving up 386 yards per game, 29th in pass defense at 242.5 yards per game, 19th in rushing defense at 134 yards per game but they are tied for 6th in scoring defense only allowing 18 points per game including holding Detroit to only 16 points last week.
How I Use Rithmm Models for my Broncos vs Buccaneers AI Prediction
It's hard to see the Bucs losing this game outright as their offense is clicking while the Broncos offense is still trying to start their engines. But the tale of two Tampa's may be, can the Broncos defense disrupt Mayfield and that explosive passing attack and keep this game close enough to cover the spread?
- Denver is 2 - 4 against the spread in their last 6 games
- Denver is 1 - 4 against the spread in their last 5 games against the NFC South
- Denver is 2 - 5 against the spread in their last 7 games played in week 3
- Tampa Bay is 4 - 1 against the spread in their last 5 games
- Tampa Bay is 6 - 2 against the spread in their last 8 games against the AFC West
- Tampa Bay is 1 - 10 against the spread in their last 11 games played in week 3
Trends are great, and they do play a pivotal part of our daily metrics when handicapping games, but what does the model say?
This line opened (DK) at Tampa -5.5 and was steamed up as high as -7 before settling back to Tampa -6.5. My model isn't completely thrilled with this spread and as '7' is one of our important numbers to consider, it might be worth waiting a day to see if this climbs back to -7, though you are always taking a chance on it coming back down below that.
My Denver Broncos vs Tampa Bay Buccaneers AI Prediction
With all of the above information in mind, and my Rithmm AI Custom Betting Models above show Tampa covering at -6.5, I'll be taking the spread here with Tampa -6.5 this weekend, though I will continue to see if I can find a -7 or higher at some point before Sunday.
